Why HFT Interviews Reject the Wrong Engineers
About fifteen hours of interviewer time per candidate, repeated fifty to a hundred times to fill one role, plus a year of accumulated process drift since anyone last redesigned it. The decision-making instrument that gates a $5-50M outcome is held together with assumptions nobody has tested. Google tested theirs in the early 2010s. Laszlo Bock, then SVP of People Operations, summarized the result of analyzing tens of thousands of interviews: zero relationship between individual interview scores and on-the-job performance.
